high school coach
Josh sullivan

This will be Josh's fifth season with the high school team. In this short time he has developed a great group of sailors who are competitive with the top programs. Josh is a lifelong dinghy sailor and an experienced coach. He grew up sailing Optimist and Club 420 on White Bear Lake. Josh started his high school’s sailing team as a freshman and led the team to a state championship victory, a regional championship podium, and a national championship appearance. In the Spring of 2018, Josh started the Brainerd Area High School Sailing Team.  Josh is a Level 3 US Sailing certified coach and has certifications in concussion protocol, first aid, and CPR/AED. Josh will be doing a sabbatical at Wayzata Sailing this summer. We are excited for the opportunity for Josh! During the winter months, Josh works for Vail Resorts at Afton Alps.

WATERFRONT MANAGER
ELLIE MURPHY

We are so excited to have one of our own returning to run the summer sailing school! Ellie has been sailing ever since she can remember and found her love for it here at GLSS and GLYC after spending nearly every summer in the Brainerd Lakes Area. Ellie is now a sophomore studying atmospheric sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she also is on their nationally recognized sailing team. Wisconsin is a successfully ranked program and she is often traveling around the country in the Fall and Spring for dingy and keelboat regattas. Last Spring, Ellie returned to GLSS to help coach the Brainerd/Pequot Lakes High School Sailing Team and instruct summer sailing. Well-versed in optis, 420s, x-boats, scows, lasers, keelboats, and more as well as US Sailing Level 1 certified, Ellie has lots of sailing knowledge to offer to the next level of sailors!
