Josh sullivan
This will be Josh's fifth season with the high school team. In this short time he has developed a great group of sailors who are competitive with the top programs. Josh is a lifelong dinghy sailor and an experienced coach. He grew up sailing Optimist and Club 420 on White Bear Lake. Josh started his high school’s sailing team as a freshman and led the team to a state championship victory, a regional championship podium, and a national championship appearance. In the Spring of 2018, Josh started the Brainerd Area High School Sailing Team. Josh is a Level 3 US Sailing certified coach and has certifications in concussion protocol, first aid, and CPR/AED. Josh will be doing a sabbatical at Wayzata Sailing this summer. We are excited for the opportunity for Josh! During the winter months, Josh works for Vail Resorts at Afton Alps.

Dedicated no matter the weather!
Chris is in his third year as a volunteer assistant coach. He is a lifelong sailor and former professional wakeboarder. Chris began his sailing career during his years at Camp Lincoln. He is the owner of Graphic Element and also serves on the Board of Directors for Gull Lake Sailing School. Chris' other hobby is photography. He has captured many wonderful shots of the high school team. His photos have been used for multiple GLSS stories in the Brainerd Dispatch and the April/May 2020 Lake Country Journal cover story on the Brainerd Lakes High School Team.

ELLIE MURPHY
We are so excited to have one of our own returning to run the summer sailing school! Ellie has been sailing ever since she can remember and found her love for it here at GLSS and GLYC after spending nearly every summer in the Brainerd Lakes Area. Ellie is now a sophomore studying atmospheric sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she also is on their nationally recognized sailing team. Wisconsin is a successfully ranked program and she is often traveling around the country in the Fall and Spring for dingy and keelboat regattas. Last Spring, Ellie returned to GLSS to help coach the Brainerd/Pequot Lakes High School Sailing Team and instruct summer sailing. Well-versed in optis, 420s, x-boats, scows, lasers, keelboats, and more as well as US Sailing Level 1 certified, Ellie has lots of sailing knowledge to offer to the next level of sailors!

ETHAN STOHR
Ethan started his sailing journey at the Gull Lake Sailing School at an early age, and has been a member of the Brainerd Lakes High School Sailing Team for three years. This is his third year as a Sailing Instructor for the summer sailing program and recently received his US Sailing Level 1 certification. Ethan will be 11th grader at the Pequot Lakes High School, and has participated in the Pequot Lakes Trap Shooting Team and plays trombone in the high school band. In addition to sailing, Ethan’s other hobbies include snowboarding, wakeboarding, wake surfing, piano and guitar.
baden bastian
Baden has been a sailor on Gull Lake from a young age. His sailing career started long ago with summer sailing classes at the Gull Lake Sailing School and has progressed to the high school sailing team. He has sailed on the team for 4 years and is the only sailor left from the first high school sailing team. Baden is a US Sailing Certified, level 1 instructor, and is in his third year of instructorship at GLSS and will be a senior at Brainerd High School. Baden is also a Red Cross certified lifeguard, trained in Teaching and Coaching Fundamentals. Safe Sport trained, and also holds the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank and honor in boy scouts. When he isn’t sailing, Baden enjoys mountain biking, swimming, running, and skiing.
