Tuesday, July 14, 2020 Safety is not on quarantine! GLSS is working directly with the Crow Wing County Water Patrol to evaluate our ability to offer safe, outdoor classes that meet state Covid-19 guidelines, weather permitting. An online class is also available on the GCOLA website for $25. Boating will be a highlight of the summer with so many other activities cancelled and safe boating is fun boating. |

Each year the Gull Chain of Lakes Association (GCOLA) in conjunction with Cass and Crow Wing County Water Patrols and DNR sponsors two boat and water safety classes for all youths ages 12 to 17. According to Minnesota state law, all teens 13-17 years old are required to have a permit to operate a personal watercraft and all youth ages 12-17 must have a permit to operate a boat with a motor of over 25 HP. This class not only goes through all rules and regulations, but also provides all participants hands on boat operation training. On water instruction may not be possible due to Covid-19 regulations this year. This class qualifies participants for the required permits. GCOLA will be giving participants a life jacket. The sheriff’s office strongly recommends that all
young people in this age bracket take the class.
There is no cost for the classes.
