MC FLEET 104
SEASON FOUR 2018
Hello, MC Fleet #104!
Welcome to our FOURTH season of sailing together!
It is time to amp up the energy for summer sailing on beautiful Gull Lake. A shout-out to new fleet members: We are so happy you are joining us! It has been wonderful racing on the lake the past few years and this promises to be another fun summer of action – at the prep, on the starting line, rounding marks, crossing the line and during après camaraderie.
Sailing News! We are so glad to have a new Brainerd High School Sailing Team beginning this Spring. Please help, if you are able. Volunteers are needed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 3-6 pm, until the end of May. Please contact Coach Josh Sullivan email@example.com. More information about the team is on this website.
Way to go, Betsy Driessen, for being the 2017 inaugural recipient of the fleet’s Good Sport Award!
Congrats to Vince Driessen for pulling out a win at the Lake Harriet DieHard Regatta in the Fall 2017. Great accomplishment in a 40-boat fleet of MC champions.
And we are excited to begin our preparations to host the 2019 ILYA MC Invitational.
There are a few logistical items that need to be covered as we move into the season. See below.
2018 MC Fleet Racing Schedule:
All races are scheduled for Saturdays. We will start at 1:30 p.m. sharp. The location will be on the main lake in front of the club, unless otherwise notified. We will sail out of Rocky Point on Saturday, June, 30th. The Steamboat Bay Cup date is TBD. We welcome the possibility of sailing at other locations on the lake so we can all discover new areas on this beautiful body of water.
Following the races, we hope to enjoy the company of all the sailors at the club. Bring your own refreshments.
Here are the dates for 2018 MC Scow racing on Gull Lake:
June 30 - ROCKY POINT
August 4 - FUN REGATTA
Labor Day Weekend (day/time TBD) - Season Wrap-Up with Appetizers and Awards Presentation
Each MC registered to the fleet will need to pay a fee to defray the fleet costs. This year, the cost will be $150 per boat. In addition, we would like to require donations to GLSS at the Skipper Level or greater. We highly encourage a donation at the Admiral Level as we will be using the GLSS facilities and equipment throughout our season. For those of you who have not already made your donation to GLSS, simply click the Donate button above.
PRO (Principal Race Officer): Thank you to Nick Driessen who generously assisted the fleet with PRO duties last year. This year, we will need to resume our practice of sharing the race official duties. Please offer to help act as PRO for one of the Saturdays. It would be good for all to take a turn eventually and learn the skill of setting a course and managing a race.
Safety Support: Please offer to help with Safety Support. We are hoping we can all enlist friends or family members to assist so that sailors can be out racing. We need to be safe out there!
Regatta Logistics: The fleet is committed to giving our support to the Fun Regatta on Saturday, August 4, 2018. We hope for a great showing of the fleet at the regatta and also seek volunteers for the following ‘on and off the water' tasks. These tasks should not interfere with your ability to sail in the races. A few of the tasks include Launching, Boat Inspection, Race Equipment, Trophies, PRO helper, Safety, Scoring, Marks and Mooring. Thanks for volunteering!
Communications: We are hoping to use this website and email for MC Fleet communications. Share your photos, if you are able! During races, we would like to use VHF radios to improve PRO-to-fleet communications. We may use group texting on the day of the race to communicate weather-related decisions before the race, so if you are interested in being on that group text, please let us know how we can stay connected with you.
Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
